Discovery Day – From an Event to a Tradition
Some events happen once. Others leave a lasting mark and build a community.
Since 2016, Discovery Day has followed this path — from a one-time gathering of the SQL Server community to a tradition that is anticipated, planned, and remembered.
It all began in 2016, when, together with the Professional Association of SQL Server Professionals (PASS), we organized the official launch of SQL Server 2016 for the Bulgarian SQL Server community. What started as a single launch event soon revealed a greater potential — the need for a dedicated day where people working with data could connect, share experience, and engage in meaningful conversations beyond versions and features.
From its very first editions, the event created a sense that something different was happening here. Not formal lectures, but real stories from practice. Not random encounters, but conversations that open new opportunities. It was precisely this energy that turned Discovery Day into a focal point for the SQL community in Bulgaria.
Between 2017 and 2019, the event naturally evolved and established itself. Topics expanded, the content became even more practical, and the community grew more engaged. Discussions went beyond SQL Server updates to cover real-life challenges in day-to-day work, architectural decisions, best practices, and the direction in which data technologies are evolving. Sessions were delivered by professionals with hands-on experience, conversations continued beyond the conference room, and feedback clearly showed that this was an event with real value.
The return in 2025 came with an even clearer understanding that data goes far beyond a purely technological context. Alongside the long-standing focus on SQL Server, conversations around business direction, leadership, and strategic decision-making naturally took shape. Meetings with the C-level community and the introduction of a business track offered a new perspective — how technology becomes a real competitive advantage for organizations.
Today, SQL Server remains the solid foundation on which we build. Around it, topics such as data platforms, analytics, and artificial intelligence continue to evolve — because data is no longer just infrastructure, but a driver of growth, innovation, and sustainable development.
In 2026, the event steps beyond familiar boundaries and expands into a two-day format, featuring pre-conference trainings and an extended business focus.
The message brings together everything we have built over the years:
Discovery Day 2026: Inspire. Build. Lead. WITH DATA.
An event created by people with experience.
Powered by vision.
And driven by the power of community.
